The climate of Lefkada

The island of Lefkas has a typical Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by no freezing temperatures and lots of rainning in the winter and dry summers. From May to September the temperature will not dip below 25C and you can expect around 10 hours of sunshine per day.

Lefkas climate differs from the climate of the other Ionian Islands from its thermal winds that get really strong in some parts of the island; for that reason, the island is famous among the windsurfers and kite surfers.

Lefkas has a high level of humidity, even during the summer time, since it is an island and it is surrounded by sea.

It is in a very good condition and you can visit it almost every time of the day. Lefkas town has several museums like the Archeological museum, which is placed inside the City Hall and it can give you an idea of ancient Lefkas and the way of life thousand of years ago, as well as the "Gramophone" museum with a great variety of gramophones constructed during the 19th century. There are several churches around the town. The Venetian church Christ the Almighty at the Market street dates back to the 17th century.

The famous private island of Scorpios is just 10 minutes away by boat from Nidri. Aristotelis Onasis, the most famous billionaire of Greece, was so astonished by the beauty of the area, that he wanted a place, a small paradise as he used to say, to spend his free time and escape from the responsibilities his job had. You can not enter the island but there are boats departing from Nidri that approach it and you can see the buildings on the island and maybe take a swim close to the its private beaches.

The Papanikolis cave at Meganisi island is also worth a visit. It is a big stalactite cave which can only be reached by boat.

The Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni a few kilimeters away from Lefkas town is open for visitors. You can feel its holy and peaceful atmosphere, by enjoying the wonderful view of Lefkas town and its lagoon from there. Inside the Monastery there is also an interesting zoo, which is organised by the priests living there.

Moreover, the waterfalls just outside the village of Nidri create a beautiful atmosphere that will make you think you are in a tropical place. The cape of Lefkata at the southest part of the island and its wild beauty is also worth to see.
